Ingredients
- 2 large Honeycrisp apples
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 4 Tablespoons apple pie spice
- 5 Tablespoons cinnamon (reserve one Tablespoon for the top coating)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ cup light brown sugar
- Nonstick cooking spray
Instructions
- Peel the skin off each apple, then cut the apples in half and into ½-inch wedges.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, apple pie spice, and 4 tablespoons of cinnamon.
- Transfer this flour mixture to a large container with a lid and add the apple wedges. Secure the lid and shake vigorously to coat all the apple pieces.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the apple wedges, shaking off excess flour. Set them on a plate, but keep the remaining flour mixture.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and vanilla extract.
- Dredge a few apple wedges at a time in the egg mixture.
- Return the egg-coated wedges to the container with the flour mixture and shake again for a second coating.
- In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and the remaining 1 tablespoon of cinnamon; set this aside.
- Spray your air fryer basket with nonstick spray and place the coated apple fries in a single layer, working in batches if necessary.
- Liberally spray the tops of the apples with nonstick spray and sprinkle with half of the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture.
- Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 6 minutes.
- Open the basket, flip the apples, spray them again, and sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture. Cook for an additional 6 minutes until golden and crispy.
Notes
Serve warm with caramel, glaze, or whipped cream. For best results, cook in single layers and shake off excess flour for crispiness.
