Description
A hearty Greek-inspired dish featuring tender beef and orzo pasta in a rich tomato sauce, perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs beef (chuck or round), cut into cubes
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Grated cheese (such as Kefalotyri or Parmesan) for topping
- Olive oil for cooking
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until soft.
- Add the beef cubes and brown them on all sides.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, beef broth, oregano, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover. Let it simmer for 90-120 minutes until the beef is tender.
- In the last 10-15 minutes of cooking, add the orzo pasta, stirring occasionally.
- Once the orzo is cooked, remove from heat, serve hot, and top with grated cheese.
Notes
Pair with crusty bread or a fresh Greek salad for a complete meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
