Description

A hearty Greek-inspired dish featuring tender beef and orzo pasta in a rich tomato sauce, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs beef (chuck or round), cut into cubes
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated cheese (such as Kefalotyri or Parmesan) for topping
  • Olive oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until soft.
  2. Add the beef cubes and brown them on all sides.
  3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, beef broth, oregano, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover. Let it simmer for 90-120 minutes until the beef is tender.
  5. In the last 10-15 minutes of cooking, add the orzo pasta, stirring occasionally.
  6. Once the orzo is cooked, remove from heat, serve hot, and top with grated cheese.

Notes

Pair with crusty bread or a fresh Greek salad for a complete meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
