Description

A comforting holiday classic with golden bread cubes, gooey cheese, and fragrant herbs, perfect for family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 10 cups bread cubes (day-old or toasted)
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or mix)
  • 34 tbsp chopped fresh herbs (parsley, thyme, rosemary, sage)
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 34 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Toast or dry bread cubes if not already prepared.
  3. In a large skillet, melt butter and sauté onion and celery until soft.
  4. In a large bowl, combine bread cubes, sautéed vegetables, shredded cheese, and fresh herbs.
  5. Gradually add broth until bread is moist but not mushy.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Transfer mixture to a buttered baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove foil, sprinkle with extra cheese if desired, and bake 15–20 minutes more until golden and crisp on top.

Notes

Prepare bread cubes and grate cheese a day ahead for easier assembly. Can be made vegetarian by using vegetable broth.
