This hearty one-pan dish combines tender potatoes, savory smoked sausage, and a creamy, cheesy ranch sauce for a comforting and flavorful family dinner.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs baby potatoes, quartered
- 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup ranch dressing or 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
- 1/4 cup milk
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups half-and-half or milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 2 sliced bell peppers and 1 diced onion
- Optional garnish: fresh parsley
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch square baking dish.
- Boil quartered potatoes in salted water until just tender, then drain well.
- In a large skillet, brown sliced sausage over medium-high heat until crispy.
- Add sausage and drained potatoes to the prepared baking dish. Optionally, sauté bell peppers and onions with the sausage.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in half-and-half or milk until smooth and simmer until thickened.
- Stir in cheese until melted and add ranch seasoning or dressing. Season with salt and pepper.
- Pour sauce over potatoes and sausage, sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
- Bake 25–30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Brown the sausage for extra flavor and crispiness. Mix different cheeses for a richer taste. Substitute ranch dressing for the seasoning packet if preferred.
