Description

This hearty one-pan dish combines tender potatoes, savory smoked sausage, and a creamy, cheesy ranch sauce for a comforting and flavorful family dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs baby potatoes, quartered
  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing or 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups half-and-half or milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 2 sliced bell peppers and 1 diced onion
  • Optional garnish: fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch square baking dish.
  2. Boil quartered potatoes in salted water until just tender, then drain well.
  3. In a large skillet, brown sliced sausage over medium-high heat until crispy.
  4. Add sausage and drained potatoes to the prepared baking dish. Optionally, sauté bell peppers and onions with the sausage.
  5. In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  6. Gradually whisk in half-and-half or milk until smooth and simmer until thickened.
  7. Stir in cheese until melted and add ranch seasoning or dressing. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Pour sauce over potatoes and sausage, sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
  9. Bake 25–30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Brown the sausage for extra flavor and crispiness. Mix different cheeses for a richer taste. Substitute ranch dressing for the seasoning packet if preferred.
