Ingredients
- 1 cup sourdough starter (discard)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Beat together the softened butter and sugar until creamy in a large bowl.
- Add the sourdough starter, egg, and vanilla extract to the bowl. Mix until well combined.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips gently into the dough.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together.
- Shape the dough into a 1-inch thick circle and cut it into wedges or use a round cutter.
- Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and enjoy!
Notes
Make sure your butter is soft but not melted for the best texture. Don’t overmix the dough; mix just until combined to keep the scones tender.
