Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 eggs
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon mixed spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice)
- 1/2 cup dried fruits (cranberries, raisins, or currants)
- 1/2 cup nuts (pecans or walnuts, optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix flour, salt, and mixed spices.
- Create a well in the center and add the melted butter, eggs, and yeast mixture.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Incorporate dried fruits and nuts if using.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Let it rise again for 30 minutes.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool before slicing and enjoy.
Notes
Serve warm or at room temperature, plain or with butter. Store in an airtight container for 3–4 days or freeze up to 3 months. For a variation, try chocolate chips or citrus zest in the dough.
