Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Green food coloring
  • Sprinkles for decoration
  • Royal icing (optional for decoration)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream the softened butter and powdered sugar together until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Divide the dough into two equal parts, adding green food coloring to one part and mixing until even.
  5. Roll out both doughs between parchment paper until 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Cut out shapes using a tree-shaped cookie cutter and create trunks from the plain dough if desired.
  7. Place cutouts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges turn golden.
  9. Let cool completely before decorating with royal icing or sprinkles.

Notes

Use softened butter for the best texture. Do not over-mix the dough, and let cookies cool completely before decorating.
