Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, like almonds or pecans)
Instructions
- Grease a baking sheet with butter or line it with parchment paper.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.
- Once the butter is melted, stir in the granulated sugar and salt. Keep stirring until the mixture comes to a boil.
- Allow the mixture to boil without stirring for about 6-8 minutes or until it turns a golden-brown color.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Quickly pour the toffee onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it evenly.
- While still hot, sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Let them sit for a minute to melt, then spread the melted chocolate over the toffee.
- If using nuts, sprinkle them on top of the chocolate layer.
- Allow the toffee to cool completely at room temperature, then break it into pieces.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 weeks or freeze for up to three months.
