Description
Delicious homemade sourdough sandwich bread that is soft and healthier than store-bought options.
Ingredients
- 65 grams active sourdough starter
- 300 grams lukewarm water
- 12 grams salt (2 teaspoons)
- 14 grams sugar
- 15 grams oil (avocado or olive) (1 tablespoon, plus more for coating the pan)
- 400 grams bread flour
- 100 grams all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Feed your sourdough starter 4-8 hours before making the bread.
- Combine the sourdough starter, lukewarm water, salt, sugar, and oil in a large bowl. Mix well.
- Add the bread flour and all-purpose flour. Stir until a rough dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 240-360 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough to remove excess air. Turn it out onto a floured surface and shape it into a loaf.
- Transfer the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan.
- Cover the loaf pan and let the dough rise again for about 60-120 minutes, or until it has puffed up.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the bread for about 30-35 minutes, until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Ensure your sourdough starter is active before use. Add more flour if the dough feels sticky. Allow bread to cool completely before slicing.
