how to make Garlic Bread Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 4 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 3 1/2 cups + 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (See notes below for measuring)
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 cup whole or 2% milk (warmed to 110°F)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1 beaten egg, for brushing the tops
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • Flaky sea salt (for finishing)

Directions:

  1. Lightly butter the bottom and sides of a 9×13 pan and set it aside.
  2. In a small pot, melt the butter and add the minced garlic. Cook for 1-2 minutes or until the garlic is fragrant. Take off the heat and cool while you measure the other ingredients.
  3. In a stand mixing bowl, combine the flour, parsley, sugar, yeast, and salt. Then add the warmed milk, egg, and the cooled garlic butter mixture. Knead on low speed with the dough hook until the dough looks smooth and feels soft and tacky, about 10-12 minutes. If the dough is too sticky, add one tablespoon of flour at a time until you have a workable dough.
  4. Cut the kneaded dough into 12 equal portions (use a scale for accuracy- 67 grams each). Shape each piece into a smooth ball with your hand. Pinch the bottom of the roll where the seam comes together to keep it tight. Then place the shaped dough balls into the prepared baking pan. Cover with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and set them in a warm place to rise until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  6. Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg wash. Then bake for 20-30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  7. While the rolls are baking, make the garlic butter by melting 2 tablespoons of butter in a pot and adding 1 tablespoon of minced garlic. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant. Remove from heat and stir in parsley. When the rolls come out of the oven, immediately brush them with the garlic butter. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired, and serve warm!

how to serve Garlic Bread Rolls

These Garlic Bread Rolls are delicious served warm right out of the oven. They make a perfect side for pasta dishes, soups, or salads. You can also enjoy them on their own as a tasty snack. Pair them with marinara sauce or a herb-infused olive oil for dipping.

how to store Garlic Bread Rolls

To store leftover Garlic Bread Rolls, let them cool completely. Place them in an airtight container or a zip-top bag. You can keep them at room temperature for up to 2 days. tips to make Garlic Bread Rolls

  • Make sure to use room temperature ingredients like the egg and warmed milk. This helps the yeast activate properly.
  • Kneading the dough until smooth is key for soft rolls.
  • If you want extra garlic flavor, feel free to add more minced garlic into the dough or the butter mixture.
  • Cover the dough while it rises to prevent it from drying out.

variation

You can add shredded cheese, like mozzarella or Parmesan, to the dough for a cheesy twist. Another variation is to include herbs like rosemary or thyme for added flavor.

FAQs

1. Can I use whole wheat flour?
Yes, you can substitute some of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour, but keep in mind it may change the texture.

2. What if I don’t have instant yeast?
You can use active dry yeast instead. Simply dissolve it in the warmed milk for about 5-10 minutes before mixing it with the other ingredients.

3. Can I make the dough ahead of time?
Absolutely! You can prepare the dough, let it rise, and then refrigerate it overnight. Let it come to room temperature before shaping and baking it.
