Description
Homemade Amish White Bread is simple to make and incredibly satisfying with a soft and fluffy texture, perfect for sandwiches or toast.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add warm water and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients, and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
- Place the dough in a greased loaf pan, cover again, and let it rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Allow to cool before slicing.
Notes
Make sure the water is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast. You can add herbs or spices for additional flavor.
