Description

Homemade Amish White Bread is simple to make and incredibly satisfying with a soft and fluffy texture, perfect for sandwiches or toast.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Add warm water and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients, and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  6. Place the dough in a greased loaf pan, cover again, and let it rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

Make sure the water is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast. You can add herbs or spices for additional flavor.
