Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 1/4 cups warm milk
- 1 1/4 cups unsalted butter (cold)
- 1 large egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Set aside for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
- In another large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and knead until smooth.
- Refrigerate the dough for about 30 minutes to help it chill.
- Roll the cold butter into a flat rectangle and chill it as well.
- Roll the dough into a large rectangle. Place the butter in the center and fold the dough over it.
- Roll out the dough and fold it into thirds like a letter.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes, then repeat the rolling and folding process two more times.
- Roll the dough into a large rectangle and cut it into triangles.
- Roll each triangle from the base to the tip to form the croissant shape.
- Place the rolled croissants on a baking sheet, cover, and let them rise for about an hour.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and brush the croissants with egg wash for a nice glaze.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Notes
Serve fresh with your favorite spreads, or enjoy them plain. Store leftovers in an airtight container or freeze for longer storage.
