Description

Enjoy the flaky texture and buttery flavor of homemade croissants, perfect for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm milk
  • 1 1/4 cups unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Set aside for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In another large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and knead until smooth.
  4. Refrigerate the dough for about 30 minutes to help it chill.
  5. Roll the cold butter into a flat rectangle and chill it as well.
  6. Roll the dough into a large rectangle. Place the butter in the center and fold the dough over it.
  7. Roll out the dough and fold it into thirds like a letter.
  8. Refrigerate for 30 minutes, then repeat the rolling and folding process two more times.
  9. Roll the dough into a large rectangle and cut it into triangles.
  10. Roll each triangle from the base to the tip to form the croissant shape.
  11. Place the rolled croissants on a baking sheet, cover, and let them rise for about an hour.
  12. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and brush the croissants with egg wash for a nice glaze.
  13. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Notes

Serve fresh with your favorite spreads, or enjoy them plain. Store leftovers in an airtight container or freeze for longer storage.
