Description

Delicious homemade sourdough English muffins with a unique flavor and perfect texture for breakfast.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • Cornmeal for dusting


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the sourdough starter and warm water.
  2. Gradually add flour, salt, sugar, and baking soda to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
  4. Let it rise for 60 minutes until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1 inch thick and cut out rounds.
  6. Sprinkle cornmeal on a baking sheet and place the muffins on it.
  7. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat a griddle to medium heat and cook the muffins for 7-8 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  9. Cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Store your cooled muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, wrap each muffin in plastic wrap and then foil before freezing.
