Delicious homemade sourdough English muffins with a unique flavor and perfect texture for breakfast.
Ingredients
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 1 cup warm water
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- Cornmeal for dusting
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the sourdough starter and warm water.
- Gradually add flour, salt, sugar, and baking soda to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
- Let it rise for 60 minutes until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough to about 1 inch thick and cut out rounds.
- Sprinkle cornmeal on a baking sheet and place the muffins on it.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat a griddle to medium heat and cook the muffins for 7-8 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
Store your cooled muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, wrap each muffin in plastic wrap and then foil before freezing.
