A hearty and satisfying casserole that combines the rich flavors of a classic burger, perfect for family dinners or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground Beef (or ground turkey, chicken, or plant-based meat)
- 1 Onion (yellow onion or shallots)
- 8 oz Mushrooms (crimini or button)
- 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
- 1 cup Beef Broth (or chicken broth)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
- 6 oz Swiss Cheese (or cheddar, mozzarella)
- 1 cup Sour Cream (or Greek yogurt)
- 4 pieces Hamburger Buns (or gluten-free buns)
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- to taste Salt
- to taste Pepper
- 1 tbsp Fresh Parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the mushrooms and cook for another 5-7 minutes, until they soften.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef, salt, and pepper. Cook until the meat is browned.
- Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Cook for about 5 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix the sour cream with half of the Swiss cheese.
- Layer the bottom of a baking dish with the hamburger buns, followed by the beef mixture, and top with the sour cream mixture. Sprinkle the remaining Swiss cheese on top.
- Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Notes
Serve hot from the oven with a fresh salad or steamed vegetables. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
