Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 (32 ounce) bag frozen tater tots
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 (15 ounce) can of green beans or corn, drained


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic over medium-high heat until the beef is browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in condensed cream of mushroom soup and season with salt and pepper. Add drained vegetables if using.
  4. Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the meat layer.
  6. Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.
  7. Bake uncovered for 35–45 minutes, until tater tots are golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  8. Top with remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese and bake for an additional 5 minutes, until melted. Serve hot.

Notes

Use lean ground beef to prevent excess grease. For extra crispiness, keep tater tots in a single layer. You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
