Description
This simple Tater Tot Casserole is a classic comfort food featuring layers of seasoned ground beef, creamy sauce, and crispy tater tots topped with melted cheese for an easy, family-favorite meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- 1 (32 ounce) bag frozen tater tots
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 (15 ounce) can of green beans or corn, drained
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic over medium-high heat until the beef is browned. Drain excess grease.
- Stir in condensed cream of mushroom soup and season with salt and pepper. Add drained vegetables if using.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the meat layer.
- Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.
- Bake uncovered for 35–45 minutes, until tater tots are golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Top with remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese and bake for an additional 5 minutes, until melted. Serve hot.
Notes
Use lean ground beef to prevent excess grease. For extra crispiness, keep tater tots in a single layer. You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
