Description

A soulful Southern Maple Sweet Potato Casserole that blends creamy sweet potatoes with maple syrup and a pecan-studded topping  the perfect balance of sweet, silky, and crunchy comfort.


Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk or heavy cream
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Topping:

  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a medium casserole dish.
  2. Boil sweet potatoes in salted water for 15 minutes until tender, then drain and mash until smooth.
  3. In a large bowl, mix melted butter, maple syrup, brown sugar, milk, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Fold in the mashed sweet potatoes until creamy and well combined.
  5. Pour mixture into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
  6. In a separate bowl, combine chopped pecans, brown sugar, flour, and melted butter to make the topping.
  7. Sprinkle topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes until the top is golden and fragrant.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy the comforting blend of maple, spice, and Southern soul.

Notes

Make ahead by preparing the base and topping separately up to 2 days in advance. For extra crunch, swap pecans for walnuts or add crushed gingersnaps.
